Carlson Formetec’s proprietary method of hot forming titanium brings a unique capability to a wide variety of adaptations throughout the aerospace industry. Our state of the art process allows us to form complex titanium parts in a fraction of the time needed by most hot forming operations. In most cases the “time at temperature” during our process is less than 5 minutes.

Our enclosed, induction heated process utilizes 2 piece (Punch and Die) and 3 piece (Punch, Pressure Pad and Die) tools to form complex shapes from flat patterns. We can currently form complex parts within a 24” square envelope, up to a 24” diameter and in addition we have the capability to form more basic, straighter parts up to 48” long using preheat ovens and by forming parts in a 2 stage process.
Each component of our forming tools is individually heated and therefore can be individually controlled for temperature. This allows for fine tuning of the individual components to form parts much more precisely than more traditional hot forming methods. Our tool component temperatures are monitored from initial heat up, throughout the forming process and through shut down to assure that temperatures stay consistent and to allow us to view our forming process temperatures both real time and with historic accuracy to better serve our customers.
In addition to controlling tool component temperatures, our presses allow us to control and fine tune our upper and lower forming pressures to suit the needs of individual parts.
